One could say that Cole Kirby lived his life to the absolute fullest. He enjoyed playing baseball, hunting, fishing and anything to do with spending time with friends and family in the outdoors.
Cole turned 18 on June 25th 2016. In his brief time on this earth, his determination and commitment to do all things to the best of his ability, paired with a humble and always joyful spirit, endeared him to his classmates, teachers, coaches, friends and most of all, to his family. Some of his most recent accomplishments were to be inducted into the National Honor Society and be part of the Madison-Ridgeland Academy State Championship baseball team.
As he looked forward to his senior year, Cole’s parents braced themselves for the inevitable empty nest. Their commitment to sharing in every moment with Cole as he reached that milestone was evidenced by their near-constant presence at the baseball field and the time they spent together as a family.
Cole was involved in a student-led neighborhood bible study, and spent much time talking about God with a precious friend and neighbor. This summer Cole also spent time serving God through serving others at Pinelake’s Care Center—affirmation of Cole’s deep faith in Jesus Christ and the eternal life that comes from believing in Him.
He was a tremendous friend to everyone. He literally befriended every person he ever met. With his beautiful red hair and infectious smile, he made everyone around him happy and was adored by many.
Cole was part of a tight-knit group of boys that lived in and around the Cottonwood subdivision in Rankin County. These boys have been more like brothers than friends for over 12 years and have literally grown up together.
On Monday, July 4th, four of these precious boys were involved in an automobile accident that proved fatal for Cole.
But here’s what we know; according to John 14:1-4, we are not to let our hearts be troubled. We are to trust in God and know that Cole was called home to a place Jesus prepared just for him. And it is in that promise that we will look to find comfort.
So to the rising MRA seniors, and friends far and wide, go and conquer the world! Go and live every day to the fullest and always in a way that honors God. And to the family he leaves behind, thanks to God’s amazing promise, we will see each other again.
