Dalton D. Hill, 88, passed away Sat. Oct. 20, 2012 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held Mon. Oct. 22, 2012 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 11am. Tues. Oct. 23, 2012 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Mr. Hill was born on June 16, 1924 in D’Lo, MS and has been a resident of Pearl, MS since July 1999, after moving from South Jackson. He was a member of Pinelake Baptist Church in Brandon, MS and also a former member of First Baptist Church in Eldorado, AR where he taught 8 & 9 year old boys Sunday School Classes and also coached them in baseball for several years. Mr. Hill was a Mason, a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Exchange Club and Toast Masters in Eldorado, AR.
Mr. Hill graduated from D’Lo High School in 1942, and then he became the first person to join the U.S. Marine Corps from D’Lo, MS. He served his country as a Sergeant with the Marine Corps during WWII, in the Pacific at Guadalcanal, as well as many other islands. After he returned home from the service, Mr. Hill enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 1949 serving as Vice President and President of his class. Mr. Hill retired with Libby McNeill and Libby, and local Food Brokerage Businesses after 20 years of service and was also a proud employee for Wal-Mart in Pearl, MS for an additional 10 years after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Hill; his daughter, Pam Kirby and her husband Mike of Brandon, MS; his two sons, David Hill of Collierville, TN and Larry Hill and his wife Becky of Pearl, MS; his grandchildren, Brian Kirby and his wife Kelly of Madison, MS, Brittany Cariker and her husband Heath of Brandon, MS, Bradley R. Hill of Phoenix, AR and Stephanie P. Hill of Sherwood, AR; his great-grandchild, Olivia Owen Kirby and his two sisters, Winona Moorehead and Juanita Henderson.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. William T. Williams, doctors and staff at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and the Franklin County Memorial Hospital for all of their love and kindness.
