David C Jones passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on March 27, 1943 to his parents, Charles and Mary Lindenmeyer Jones. He was raised on a farm in Shelbyville, Indiana where he learned hard work and a love of sports. Basketball took him to Northern Arizona University, and later Tusculum College, with another stop at the University of Southern Mississippi for his doctorate.
He began his career as a teacher and principal in Indiana and progressed to Assistant Superintendent before founding David Jones and Associates, a multi-state education firm 45 years ago. He enjoyed his work in assisting school districts, colleges, and other entities obtain funding through competitive grants. However as a history major, his passion was traveling for business and pleasure. He fulfilled his childhood dreams of visiting those faraway places with strange sounding names that were in his geography books. He was never happier than planning a new adventure.
In later years, his traveling days were limited, but he found joy in watching his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Jonah, begin their own adventures and keeping up with their sports. He touched many lives in his earthly journey and have had numerous students, colleagues, and acquaintances thank him through the years. Most of all, he was a good, kind man and will be sorely missed.
David is survived by his wife Rita, his children Steve Jones, Lori Maddox, Christy Berry (Scott), David W. Lane (Bethany) and beloved grandchildren, Sarah Kathryn and Rachel Berry, Lilah, Gray, and Wills Lane as well as Judy Jones, his sister-in-law and nephews Jeffrey and Eric Jones of Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Stephan Jones, his niece, Jessica Jones Daly and his grandchild, David W. Lane, Jr.
