Mr. David Burton French, age 87 passed into eternal glory on Monday, October 23, 2017 from the Scott Regional Hospital in Morton, MS. Visitation services were held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Ott and Lee Chapel with the interment held in the Morton Memorial Gardens following the service.
Mr. French was born to his parents, Presley Earl and Ruby Hutchinson French on December 8, 1929 in Byram, MS. He was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Church Bus Driver and he served on several committees for many years. Mr. French was an Agent for the Illinois Central Railroad for forty-one years. He also served as an Alderman for the city of Morton for 16 years from (1997-2013). The family shared that he was “Mr. Fixit” for everything because there was not anything he could not fix. He enjoyed playing dominoes, Rook, and loved basketball, working in the yard and gardening. Mr. French had a special deep love for his family and really loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. French was preceded in death by his parents, Presley and Ruby French and two siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Keyes French; his son, David L. (Rita Harrell) French of Morton; his daughter, Linda F. (Ricky D.) Hatch of Crossett, AR; his brother, James E. French of Byram; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer French (Matt) Bell, Clint (Amanda) Hatch, Kevin (Megan) Hatch, Michael (Amber) French; 4 great-grandchildren, Luke Bell, Blake Bell, Noah Hatch and Miss Kennedy French; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Clint Hatch, Kevin Hatch, Michael French, Matt Bell, Gary Mitchell, and former Mayor Greg Butler.
Donations may be made in Memory of Mr. David B. French to the Morton United Methodist Church, 29 Church Street, Morton, MS 39117.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
