Della N. Priest, 82, passed away Sat. Oct. 17, 2015 at the Lakeland Nursing and Rehab Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Mon. Oct. 19, 2015 from 5pm-8pm and Tues. Oct. 20, 2015 from 12pm-1:45pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 2pm Tues. Oct. 20, 2015 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Mrs. Priest was a lifelong resident of Rankin County, MS. She was a member of the Cato Baptist Church in the Cato Community of Rankin County, was a charter member of Skyway Hills Baptist Church in Pearl, MS and Calvary Baptist Church in Brandon, MS, where she played the piano, organ, and was church treasurer. For many years Mrs. Priest was active in the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary with the Baptist Missionary Association (BMAA) and held many local and state leadership positions including president. She retired from Trustmark Bank and she also worked for Deposit Guaranty Bank, and the Rankin County Bank. Mrs. Priest enjoyed gardening and crocheting. In later years she made over 1300 crocheted caps for babies in the Neonatal Unit at River Oaks Hospital and for cancer patients at the Baptist Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Ken Priest (Melanie); grandson, Will Priest; brother, Ray Nash (Jo); "adopted" granddaughter, Amanda Thornton; her closest and longtime friend, Christine “Chris” Smith; 4 stepsons, Bobby Priest, "Bug" Priest, Rusty Priest, Mike Priest and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Priest is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Priest; sister, Gairene McDonald and four brothers, J.B. Nash, Truitt Nash, Harold Nash and Clay Nash.
