Mr. Dennis “Buddy” Easterling, age 73, a resident of Morton passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 at his residence. Visitation was held 5-9pm Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral service was held 2pm Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Two Mile Cemetery. Bro. Gary Wyatt and Bro. Baron Price officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Easterling was born in Smith County in 1938. He was born to Henry T. Easterling and Verna Mae Phillips Easterling. He loved to squirrel hunt. Most people knew the name, Buddy Easterling, for his big heart and kindness to everyone. People would come from near and far to have Mr. Buddy work on their small engines. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry T. and Verna Mae Phillips Easterling; daughter, Tammy Easterling; grandson, Randy Easterling; granddaughter, Heather B. Shoemaker; sisters, Ruth Easterling and Annie Rae Owens; 2 step daughters, Renae Easterling and Barbara Wilkerson and 6 brothers, Caley, Robert, Kennis, Willard, Lloyd and Douglas Easterling.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Massey Easterling; 5 children, Naomi Brewer (George) of Pelahatchie, Phil Easterling (Patra) of Pelahatchie, Mitch Easterling of Pelahatchie, Rocky Easterling (Gwen) of Polkville and Carolyn Shoemaker (Billy Dale) of Morton; 2 sisters, Betty Jean Garner (Estes) of Jackson and Shirley Bearden (Jay) of Richland; brother, James Easterling (Bobbie) of Pascagoula; 9 grandchildren, Ashley Yerrington, Ragan Marcangeli, Jessica Easterling, Holly Ingram, Kristy Easterling, Becky Creason, Rhonda Easterling, Tracy Franklin and Bridget Errington; 17 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephew and friends.
Pallbearers were Eugene Owens, Greg Bradshaw, Allen Prestage, Danny Easterling, Jackie Smith and Jimmy Paul Easterling. Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Mens Sunday School Class of North Morton Baptist Church, Nathan Easterling and Logan Easterling.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
