Dink Gibson, Jr.

February 15, 1929 — August 25, 2021

Forest

Dink Gibson, Jr., of Forest, MS died peacefully in his home on August 25, 2021. He was 92. Dink was born on February 15, 1929, to Dink and Inez Allen Gibson. He grew up in Indianola, MS, and was graduated from Indianola High School in 1947. Dink attended Mississippi State University where he was active in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from MSU in 1951. On May 27, 1951, Dink married Edna Earle Davis in the home of her parents in Lake, MS. After serving 2 years in the United States Air Force, Dink and Edna moved to Forest, MS, and built and operated Gibson Saw Company until his retirement in 1994. Dink and Edna are the proud parents of 4 sons. In May of 2021, they joyfully celebrated 70 years of marriage. Dink served on the Board of Directors of Community Bank (formerly Farmers & Merchants Bank). He was also a member of the American Legion, a member of the Forest Baptist Church, a charter member of the Forest Country Club, and remained an avid Mississippi State Bulldog fan until his death, always looking forward to 1 more football season. Throughout his life, Dink attended 68 MSU/Ole Miss football games, including 65 consecutive games from age 17 to 82. He NEVER had a single negative word to say about his beloved bulldogs - coaches or players.

Dink is preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Dave, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. He is survived by his wife, Edna, 3 sons, Steve, Randy, and Michael, 4 daughters-in-law, Angela, Anne, Jan, and Gina, 12 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 1 Sister, Kay Clower, and many nieces and nephews.

No one enjoyed life more than Dink Gibson. Whatever the activity, whether it was tennis, snow skiing, water skiing, piloting his own plane, entertaining friends, go-cart racing, cooking, traveling in his motor home, golfing, boating, woodworking, or cheering for his MSU Bulldogs, he did it with his whole heart. He supported and encouraged his sons in every activity they participated in as well. You have never met anyone more positive or enthusiastic about life and in his death, Dink would encourage each of us to live with that same enthusiasm and optimism.

There will be a memorial service planned for some time in the future. Memorial gifts may be made to the Forest Baptist Church or to a charity of your choosing.
