Dixon Mills, 77, of Brandon passed away in his home on Thursday March 31, 2016.
Dixon grew up in Itawamba County, MS. Attending MSU, he obtained his Master’s in Education and went on to work for the State Department of Education where he retired after 40 years of service.
Dixon joined the Catholic Church later in life where he became a very active member with the pastoral counsel, finance counsel, linen services, and many others.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Mills, and his sister Polly Mills.
He is survived by his mother, Glema Erwin; sons, Marshall “Andy” Mills and Ricky Mills and his wife Emily; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and “Dick” Daugherty; grandchildren, Mallory and her husband Josh LaFountaine, Madison, Mason, and Mauri Mills; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Our family wishes to express our appreciation to the many compassionate care givers Dixon encountered over the years. Too many to list, our thoughts naturally drift to those from Baptist Hospital, St. Dominic Hospital, and Mississippi Homecare Brandon.
Visitation will be held from 11 am until 12:30 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Monday, April 4, 2016. The funeral mass will be held at 1 pm at St. Jude’s in Pearl; with internment following at Lakewood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Dixon’s memory to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Jackson, MS.
