Donald Ray O’Briant, 65, passed away Sun. June 18, 2017 at his home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held on Wed. June 21, 2017 from 1pm-1:45pm at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. A memorial service will be at 2pm on Wed. June 21, 2017 at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS handled the arrangements.

Mr. O’Briant was born in Monticello, AR. He spent his childhood years in Winona, MS, lived in California, Tennessee, Florida and Hattiesburg, MS before settling in Brandon, MS where he has lived for the past six years. Mr. O’Briant had a passion for the grocery industry and he was a very successful owner and manager of several grocery companies. He had an act for learning and always had the ability to make history and current events relate. Mr. O’Briant was a volunteer tutor for the Rankin County School District in which he helped students get their GED. He also volunteered with projects for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for he was a Leukemia survivor himself.

Mr. O’Briant was a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. He was a “news junkie”, enjoyed watching movies, reading and writing during his spare time. He treasured every day that he was given and always kept a positive attitude.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon O’Briant; five children, Michael Richardson (Mandy), LeClaire Davis (Tim), Jennifer Skeen, Mitchell Smith (Jennifer), Mary Angelic O’Briant; eight grandchildren and two brothers, Reynolds Smith (Emi) and Billy Smith (Rebecca). Mr. O’Briant is preceded in death by his parents, Hastings and Willie Marlow O’Briant; sister, Willie O’Briant Best and a brother, Duffy O’Briant.
