Donald Lee Thomas, 65, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015. Visitation will be 5-8pm Monday, February 9, 2015 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home with visitation starting at 10am. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.
Mr. Thomas was born on September 19, 1949 and graduated high school in 1967 in Madden, MS. He was very athletic and loved to play baseball and basketball. He also loved hunting and fishing and being outdoors. He began his career with the Air Force in 1969 until 1972. He then joined the Air Guard in 1974, where he was very dedicated, serving much time overseas and later retiring in 2004 due to health reasons. With a strong determination he was able to survive his diagnosis of ALS for 13 years. He lived a healthy and active lifestyle preceding his diagnosis.
He was loved and admired by his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as “Papaw.”
Survivors include his loving wife, Dell Thomas; daughters, Carie Thomas Lyall and Amy Thomas Thornton; son, John Wesley Thomas; grandchildren, Gavin, Brenden, Caleb, Matthew, Jr., Landon and LaVeda; sisters, Carol Russell, Patricia Green and Barbara Shook; and brothers, James Thomas and Robert Thomas.
