Donald Mahlon Vaughn, son of Mahlon and Dorothy Vaughn of Aberdeen, Mississippi, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the age of 72. He is survived by his brother, Richard H. Vaughn, his nieces Jennifer Emerson and Lisa Strum, and his nephews, Wayne Vaughn, David Vaughn and Jason Rule.
Donnie graduated high school in Aberdeen, Mississippi and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. His early adult life was spent on the Gulf Coast where he taught Drama and English in the Biloxi school district. The majority of his adult years were spent in Aberdeen, Mississippi where he owned and operated Vaughn’s Beauty College, one of the first beauty colleges in the state of Mississippi. The school was started by his parents and he trained there, earning his hairdresser’s license at the age of 15 and his instructor’s license at the age of 19.
Donnie played a key role in the hair fashion industry in Mississippi, serving both the salon and education sides of the field. He served as State President of both the Mississippi Cosmetology School Association and the Mississippi Cosmetology Association. He also served as a member of the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology. Like his parents, he was inducted into the Mississippi Cosmetology Hall of Fame.
Donnie loved his profession, his employees and his many students. He also loved his large family and often hosted much enjoyed family gatherings. He will be truly missed.
The visitation will be held at Vaughn’s Beauty College in Aberdeen on March 31 from 12:00 – 1:00, followed by a graveside service at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery at 1:30pm.
