Donna G. Guthrie was born in Chickasaw, AL on Jan. 25, 1953 and died at her home on Mon. Oct. 10, 2016 after a courageous fight with cancer. Donna was raised in the south but moved to the northwest where she spent 20 years. She moved back to the south where she met the love of her life, Gerald Lynn Guthrie.
Donna faced her illness with dignity, serenity, grace and determination always being her cheerful and loving self. Donna’s smile could light up a room and her positive attitude was contagious. Besides being a devoted wife, and caring mom she was a true friend to many. She loved attending Vineyard Church in Flowood, MS where she loved to worship and sing praises to the Lord. During her battle with cancer her husband was by her side taking care of her every need.
Along with her husband, she is also survived by her children, Shontina Verastegui (Alfonzo), Gerry Guthrie, and Lindsey Ebert (Jeremy); grandchildren, Nehemiah Ebert and Lawrence Guthrie. Donna was preceded in death by her grandson, Sergio Verastegui who passed away in Jan. 2016. She was devastated by his loss but has now joined him in heaven.
Funeral Services will be at 5pm on Thurs. Oct. 13, 2016 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held on Thurs. Oct. 13, 2016 from 3pm-4:45pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Dominic Hospital for their excellent care, and to the cancer and radiation doctor’s and nurses who fought the battle with her. Donna will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
