Donnie Comans

May 1, 1953 — April 15, 2017

Donnie Lee Comans, 63, of Pearl, MS, after a courageous battle with cancer went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at his home.

He was born on Friday, May 1, 1953, at Matty Herse Hospital in Meridan, MS, to the late Loyd Hill and Mattie Lee Dunn Comans. He and his 6 siblings grew up in Philadelphia, MS.  Donnie and Opal Marie were married in 1971 and together they had two children, De’Niecechsi and Chad Comans.   In 1972, they moved to Pearl, MS, where they would raise their children.

He loved God, his wife, his family and antique trucks.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and PawPaw.  He was an excellent example and roll model for all.  He never hesitated to show his love for God, family and friends.  He was self-sacrificing and always put his family first.  He had a true appreciation for nature and saw God’s beauty everywhere.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, road trips, working in his garden, working on his trucks and just knocking around.  He loved his morning coffee and his “lake taters” were legendary.  He was a hard worker and spent many years working multiple jobs to provide for his family and other loved ones that he and Marie would take in over the years.  Their home was always open to everyone.
In his younger days, he picked cotton, worked on a chicken farm, worked on a horse ranch, worked as a filling station attendant and painter.  He was not afraid of a little sweat and hard work.  He worked for over 45 years as a meat cutter, having worked for National Sales, Winn Dixie, A & P, Sunflower, Allen’s Supermarket, Vowell’s Marketplace and Van’s Deer Processing.  He retired in 2015. His memory and example will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
“And he bowed his head to Jesus and he stood for Uncle Sam and he only loved one woman.  He was always proud of what he had.  He said his greatest contribution is the ones you leave behind raised on the ways and gentle kindness of a small town Southern man…”

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Opal Marie Comans; daughter, De’Niecechsi Layton (Lance); son, Chad Comans (Mary Ann); grandchildren Akira, Moira, Ariana, Madix, Karma and Chevy; twin brother, Ronnie Lee Comans; sisters; Diane Curphey, Chris Spell, Carolyn Jaynes and Cindy May; aunt, Sue Glisson; his “other daughter” Glinda Riley; special cousin and buddy, Jerry Dunn and countless extended family and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Mauldin.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 6 until 8 pm and Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 10 am until the 11 am Service in the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon.
