Funeral services for Mrs. Doris R. Burns will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from the Sharon Baptist Church in Smith County with Bro. Jimmy Arender and Bro. Dean Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Sharon Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:30 am until 11:45 am at the church prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Burns was born September 19, 1925 in Smith County and passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her daughter’s home at the age of 90. She was a lifelong resident of Smith County and a longtime employee of the Raleigh Corporation. As a member of the Burns Homemakers Club, cross stitching, quilting, crocheting, making scarves, and doing needle point were favorite past times that brought about the feeling of joy and accomplishment. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, particularly for her biscuits and dumplings, and as a woman who loved her family, friends, and church family very much. She was the oldest member of Sharon Baptist Church at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband: J.H. Burns; one daughter: Ann Massey; three sons: Mack Burns, Mike Burns, and Wayne Burns; her parents: Edward R. and M. Lula Dukes Richardson.
Survivors include: one daughter: Rose (Tommie) Winstead of Luling, LA; and one son: Bill (Sue) Burns of Boutte, LA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law: Debra Burns of Lake Charles, LA; and Nancy Burns of Morton; one sons-in-law: Ray Massey of Florence; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Carr of Gulfport and Daisy Burns of Mendenhall; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Dennis Massey, John C. Winstead, Ashley Burns, Michael Burns, Ben Burns, John Burns, and Matthew Hepperich.
