Doris Calhoun

July 24, 1933 — April 7, 2015

SERVICES: 11 AM FRIDAY AT HOMEWOOD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

BURIAL: HOMEWOOD CEMETERY

VISITATION: 5-8 PM THURSDAY AT OTT AND LEE IN FOREST

Katie Doris Calhoun, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 5-8 pm Thursday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Services are 11 am Friday at Homewood United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Milton Koon officiating.

A lifelong resident of Forest, Doris was a loyal, lifetime member of Homewood United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many, many years. She worked at Sunbeam Clock Company for 28 years and later was a garment inspector for DADCO Fashions.

Our mom fiercely loved her children and grandchildren and could not abide anything derogatory that would be said of them. She had a knack of treating each grandchild special by even cooking each one their personal favorites at family dinners. Nothing made her more proud than having her family gathered around eating some of the delicious bountiful meals she was known for. Her pecan pies and homemade dressing are legendary. A generous and outgoing lady, she will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Diann Cielencki (Douglas) of McComb; sons, Freddie Bagley
(Mary Lynn) of Brandon and John Calhoun of Forest; sisters, Mattie Bailey of Morton, Maxine Dodson of Harperville, Maggie Leach of Brandon and Sue Derrick of Pulaski; brother, Walter L. “Buck” Tadlock of Brandon; grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua Cielencki, Brett Bagley Thompson, Brooke Bagley Worthy and Bethany Bagley Mills; great-grandchildren, Wright and Olivia Thompson, Bennett Worthy and Mackenzie Oliver. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Buford Calhoun in 1971.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Homewood United Methodist Church or Homewood United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 8720 Hwy 35 South, Forest, MS 39074.
