Dorothy Griffin

June 26, 1930 — September 3, 2015

Dorothy “Dot” Audirsch Simmons Griffin, 85, passed away at her home on Thurs. Sept. 3, 2015. Visitation will be held on Sat. Sept. 5, 2015 from 9am-11am at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside services will be 2pm on Sat. Sept. 5, 2015 at the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson, MS.

Dot was born on June 26, 1930 in Jonesboro, LA to Thelma and Woodrow Audirsch. She graduated from high school in Yazoo City, MS and then went to work for Mississippi Power and Light Company, auto industry, and retired from Vaughn Construction in Jackson, MS. She also served as President for Women in Construction.

After retirement, Dot and her husband Lloyd began traveling in their RV. They loved traveling all over the United States with trips into Canada and Mexico. Dot was a person who never met a stranger so the RVing lifestyle really suited her. She and Lloyd made many lifelong friends who meant a lot to them while RVing. After age curtailed their travels they spent time doing volunteer work at River Oaks Hospital and Rankin Medical Center. They enjoyed birdwatching, playing cards, dominoes and visiting McDonald’s in Brandon each morning.

Dot was a real conversationalist. Her love of people, her quick wit and special “sparkle” gave her many friends who loved being with her. She was an active member of Brandon United Methodist Church and especially enjoyed her Sunday School Class where she organized bus trips for the group. One of her greatest joys was time spent with her grandsons, John Holmes, Zach, and Jared Phillips.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Griffin and her stepson, Tad Griffin. She is survived by two sons; four daughters; one daughter-in-law; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving friend, Maurice Talley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 1380 Livingston Lane Jackson, MS 39213 or the DMA at First United Methodist Church of Brandon 205 Mary Ann Dr. Brandon, MS 39042.
