Dorothy Jackson

July 15, 1933 — December 8, 2018

Dorothy Wanda Jackson, 85, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi passed away on December 8, 2018 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Dorothy was born July 15, 1933, in Leake County, Mississippi to Drury Slay Hartness and Bessie Sparkman Hartness. She was born in Lena, Mississippi where she spent her early childhood and then moved with her family to Jackson, Mississippi where she spent the rest of her school years. After graduating  from Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi in 1951, she went to work for Amoco Oil Company (now known as BP) and met her beloved husband Henry Jackson. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 2009. In 1980, Jack left Amoco Oil company and started his own business, Jackson Petroleum Company. Dorothy was his office administrator until they sold the business in 1988. In addition to service along side her husband in business, they traveled throughout the US doing extensive genealogical research on the Hartness family. She had a great love of genealogy and spent countless hours tracing her family history, as well as helping others trace theirs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry Jackson, her brother, David Randall Hartness, and her sister, Pattie Hartness Nolan.

She is survived by her sister, Peggie Hartness Harris of Fort Mill, SC; niece, Susie Harris Smith of Fort Mill, SC; niece, Cathy Harris Bergman of York, PA; and niece, Nina Anderson Sorey (Teri) of Collinsville, MS; and brother-in-law, Louie Nolan of Brandon, MS.

She will be remembered by her loved ones as a caring and generous sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed.
