Dorothy Morgan Prewitt, 90, known to her friends and family as “Dotty”, passed away Friday,
September 20, 2013 at The Nichols Center in Madison, MS.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Pinelake Church (Theatre), 6071 Highway 25, Brandon, MS, officiated by Dr. Chip Henderson. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time. Burial will be a private gathering in Baton Rouge, LA.
Dotty was born in Kentwood, LA, September 24, 1922. She moved to New Orleans in the 1940s and remained there until relocating to the Jackson, MS area in 1985. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Additionally, she worked several years for J. E. Hanger, Inc. in New Orleans, as office manager and as a certified fitter for braces. Among a variety of hobbies, she most loved fishing, South-Louisiana-style cooking, needlepoint and various arts and crafts, particularly making beaded Christmas ornaments and crystal angels. Dotty was a regular attendee of Pinelake Church and enjoyed her Bible study class, the Truthseekers.
Dotty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. Prewitt, Sr. Prior to his death, they enjoyed many years of wonderful fishing trips on Lake Pontchartrain and the adjoining bayous where they had a camp at Bayou LaCombe, LA.
Dotty is survived by her son, John W. Prewitt, Jr. (Cheryl), her grandchildren, Kelley Prewitt Shamblin (Scott) of Plano, TX and Kyle Prewitt (Michelle) of Bossier City, LA. She also is survived by 4 great-grandchildren, Grant & Lauren Shamblin and Brooks & Jaxson Prewitt; sisters, Esther Morrison and Kay Beitz of Baton Rouge; sisters-in-law, Mae Helen Crawford of Mandeville, LA and Marie Wear of Monroe, LA, a niece; five nephews and many great nieces and nephews, all of whom she held dear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pinelake Church - Care Center, 6071 Highway 25, Brandon, MS 39047.
