Dorothy Louise Spears died peacefully at her home on December 20, 2017 in Pelahatchie, MS with her

beloved husband of 67 years, Robert by her side. Our mother had been ill for some time and true to his

vows, our father was there through sickness and in health. He provided exceptional care and was

always vigilant in attending to her needs.

Our mother was the consummate homemaker, and her family was her only passion. She leaves behind

her husband Robert Charles Spears of Pelahatchie, MS., five children Bill Spears (Mitzi) of Hattiesburg,

MS., Carol Irby of Pelahatchie, MS., Ann Cordell (Rick) Pelahatchie, MS., Robert Earl Spears of Vicksburg,

MS., Paul Spears (Beverly) Olive Branch, MS., daughter- in- laws Dixie Livingston of Clinton and Brenda

Spears of Hattiesburg. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 1 great great

grandchild.

“Granny”, as she was referred to by her grandchildren, was born in Johnson City TN. on March 18, 1932

to George Thaddeus Henderson and Mabel Buchanan Henderson. Her parents died when she was very

young, and she was raised by her grandmother Maybell Wright and her aunt and uncle, Montiel and

Graves Nelson from Chatham, MS.

Our parents were married on April 28th, 1950 and settled in Greenville, MS where they lived for 48 years

before moving to Pelahatchie, MS. Mama was a stay at home mom who doted on her husband and her

children. We always had clean clothes, a clean house and plenty of food on the table. She was a

constant calming presence in our lives. She asked for nothing but gave everything.

She enjoyed watching baseball, football, traveling, fishing and cheating at UNO.

Our parents were members of Pelahatchie Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, MS. They were members of

Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville, MS for over 30 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s parents Bruce and Kathaleen Spears of Leland

MS, grandchildren Michael Shawn Maines and Reagan Elizabeth Woolbright.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. David Cordell, Roland Cordell, Matt Spears, Drew Spears, Justin

Spears, Josh Spears, Brandon Spears, Peyton Irby, Bryan Irby, Hunter Spears, Will Cordell, Mark Worley.

Funeral arraignments are being handled by Ott and Lee of Brandon, MS. Visitation will be at 11:00 am

on Friday, December 22, 2017 with services in the chapel at 12:00. Graveside services will follow at

Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS
