A devoted mother and homemaker, Dot was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Gatherings were never the same without her special chicken and dressing, and her family especially looked forward to her perfect breakfasts. Over the years, her children's travels added to her large library of cookbooks; she read each one as though a novel. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed attending all family ballgames until recent years and watched football and baseball on TV. In her later years, her favorite times were spent working at Fishermen's Corner with her nephew, welcoming every customer as though they were her favorite person to see on that day. Memories were made there that family has continued to remember and cherish.
Mrs. Dot accepted Christ as her Saviour at age twelve, and loved telling that she, Richard Pickett, and Carolyn Guyse were all baptized in Line Creek together. That was quite often a topic of conversation, as they determined that to be a special bond amongst the three of them. Having an unwavering faith in God, Dot shared that she spent her evenings hoping and praying to God that would be the night she went to be with Him; however, one night returning from Jackson she voiced her desire for Him to maybe not come that particular night to get her, because she was exceptionally tired. Her family treasures this time of laughter with her. She was a long time member of Line Creek Baptist Church, Clarksburg, MS. Over the years, she became very involved with the church as she served as church secretary and was on Hospitality and Cemetery Fund Committees. Claiming her end seat on the right back pew of the church, she was able to look back at the door and welcome each person entering. And yes, she was quick to ask those to move who forgot that was where God would have her sit!!!!
Along with Dr. Howard Clark, MS Care Center lovingly cared for her for several years, loving her unconditionally. They often expressed their awe at the number of visitors she had, saying they had never seen so many people come visit one person. The family gives them and those who visited their love and greatest gratitude. But going above and beyond with the love he had for her, her pastor, and very dear friend, Bro. Tal Vardaman, spent many long hours at her bedside making her days the best they could be. The family is forever singing his praises and count him as one of their own.
Mrs. Dot's family looks forward to the day they are reunited with their Loved Ones. What a blessing to see our Mother-- "She'll be standing on the far side banks of Jordan; she'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand. And when she sees us coming, SHE WILL RISE UP WITH A SHOUT, and come running through the shallow waters, reaching for our hand!" What a day that will be!
