SERVICES: 10 AM THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2014 AT OTT AND LEE FUNERAL HOME IN BRANDON BURIAL: 2 PM THURSDAY AT MAGNOLIA CEMETERY IN MERIDIAN VISIT: 9 AM THURSDAY Dr. Ernest Clarence Adams, Jr., 89, died at home in Brandon on December 1, 2014. Visitation will be 9 am Thursday, December 4 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Thursday at the funeral home with burial at 2pm Thursday in Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian. Ernest was born in Meridian, MS on March 27, 1925 to Lillian Ella (Ramsey) Adams and Ernest C. Adams. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater, achieving the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge he attended Mississippi State College (now MSU) from where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in Chemistry, going on to receive his PhD in Biochemistry in 1950 from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He taught Chemistry for one year at Mississippi State and then began a research career with Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana. He was involved in the early work on blood glucose detectors, and was key to the development of Dextrostix by Miles. During his career he received twenty patents for his work in the Biochemistry field. He was a Certified Professional Chemist, a member of Sigma Xi, and a member of the American Chemical Society. He is survived by niece, Brenda Gail Wall (Danny) of Leesburg, GA; nephews, William Tramel (Cathy) of Raleigh, MS and Robert Dover (Linda) of Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossgates United Methodist Church, 23 Crossgates Drive, Brandon, MS 39042.
