Linda is preceded in death by her father Jimmy Simpson of Gulfport, Uncle Charles Daws of Virginia Beach, VA, and Aunt Marjorie Bloch of Jennings, LA.
She is survived by a loving family: her devoted husband, Mike, who can do almost anything, including caregiving, and never tires of milk and cereal for supper; daughter, Katherine Lynn and son-in-law Dr. Adam Byrd of Flowood; mother Loraine Simpson of Gulfport; faithful brother Jim Simpson, his wife Sandi and their three beautiful daughters Jennifer Griffin (Brantley) Birmingham, AL, and their children Colson and Kase; Amanda Granberry (Michael) and daughter Tenley of Flowood and Ashley Simpson of Hammond, LA; her sister-in-law Bette Ware, niece Sydney Garrett and nephew Patrick Garrett of Haynesville, LA; cousins Jane Miller of Jennings, LA, Buddy Bloch (Cindy) of Baton Rouge, LA, Debbie Garris (Steve) of Pilot Mountain, NC, Doug Daws (Patti) of Nashville, TN; her dear Uncle Joe Daws and Aunt Bobbie of Nashville, TN; and Bettie Jeanne Candler of Sea Island, GA and her children. This large extended family had the blessing of staying close throughout the years, enjoying many Christmases in DeKalb and summer visits together at Lake Tiak O’ Khata.
Linda received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from Mississippi State University. After graduation, she worked at the State Board of Health as a sanitarian. She returned to school, earning a certificate in dental hygiene. Later, she continued her education in dentistry, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1984. She practiced dentistry for 27 years with her dear friend and dental partner, Dr. Betsy Welch, at Lakeland Dental Clinic. She also taught dental hygiene at UMMC for many years. She loved her dental patients, her co-workers and students. She felt honored to have the opportunity to teach so many talented students and to work with Dr. Beckie Barry and such great faculty for so many years. A special thanks to Dr. Charles Ramsey for helping when she was ill. Linda was a long-time member of the American Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association.
Anyone who knew Linda also knew daughter Katherine. Katherine was the love of Mike and Linda’s life. Linda enjoyed participating and supporting Katherine in her many opportunities and activities. Katherine was a blessing to her each and every day, and she said her greatest joy and accomplishment in life was to be Katherine’s mother.
Mike and Linda are charter members of Lakeland Presbyterian Church. A special thanks to this church family that was always uplifting and caring throughout these many years. She appreciated her pastors, Dr. Steve Jussely and Reverend John Duke’s ability to deliver God’s word in such a dynamic and truthful manner each Sunday. Linda knew her life was extended for years by God’s grace and many prayers.
A special thanks to Dr. Tammy Young for her friendship, dedication and perseverance in treating such a dreadful disease as cancer, radiation oncology specialist Dr. Richard Friedman, and the oncology nurses at Baptist Hospital who were kind and efficient.
