Dr. Ralph Brewer joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Visitation will be 2 -5pm Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 10am Monday, January 19, 2015, at Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Brandon, with visitation starting at 9am at the church. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson. Dr. Brewer was born the youngest of 10, to Homer and Della Brewer, in Brookhaven, MS on October 12, 1933. He was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church and a former member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, First Baptist Church of Brandon and Brandon Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School Class and was a mentor to Sunday school teachers for over 50 years. He had a joy in his heart for learning and teaching the Bible. Dr. Brewer taught English in high school and later became a school counselor for Jackson Public Schools. He then retired after 25 years as Director of Instruction with the Mississippi State Dept. of Education. Teaching was very near and dear to his heart, whether it was Sunday school or teaching children in school. He and his son-in-law Chris, started the family business, Budget Signs, Inc. in Jackson, MS in 1986. He emceed the Brandon Opry for about 12 years as he loved music. He was also a member of the CIVITAN, where he served two terms as governor. Dr. Brewer loved helping others. Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy Joyce Brewer; daughter, Candace Lynn Ray (Chris) of Jackson; 3 granddaughters, Ashley Lynn Vaughn (Ryan), Anna Leigh Ray and Amy Lenore Haralson (Daniel); 2 great grandchildren, Brewer Franklin Vaughn, Carter Nathan Haralson and John Carson Vaughn who is expected in April of 2015. He was preceded in death by his son in 1984, Ralph Carl Brewer. Memorials may be made to Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund or charity of your choice.
