D. C. Dear, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral Services were 10 am Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Star Baptist Church with burial to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS. Rev. Vic Bowman officiated and Jimmy Dear, Drew Dear, Johnny Harris, Don Watts, Ronnie Watts, Richard Watts, Warren Nance, and Jerry Jones served as pallbearers.
D.C. was born in Star, MS on November 19, 1921 to the late Drury and Agusta Burnham Dear. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Islands. Except for about eleven years, he was a lifelong resident of Star. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Star Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a machinist with Vickers Aerospace.
D. C. was a quiet man, who loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved gardening, travel, and Ole Miss football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Watts Dear, whom he adored; his parents; his mother –in-law, Doll Watts; his brothers, Casey Dear and Allen Dear; and his sisters, Ruth Dove and Myrtle Craft.
Survivors include his two sons, Phil Dear and wife, Linda of Star, MS, Charles Dear and wife, Joyce of Florence, MS; and daughter, Peggy Dear Phillips and husband, Larry of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Samantha Blair, Carolyn Dear, Brandi Dear Smith and husband, Mike, Travis Dear and wife, Jessica, and John David Phillips; great grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Ethan Dear, Cannon Smith and Avery Anne Smith, and special family members Paul, Melanie, and Faith Banis.
