Dr. Walter Ned Lewis, age 90, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Monday, October 31, 2022, with a memorial service at 2 pm at Pinelake Church in Flowood, MS.
Dr. Lewis was born in Graham, North Carolina on September 25, 1932. After finishing Graham High School, he was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Korean War. He then attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In 1955 he entered the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee graduating in 1959.
In June 1958 he married Mildred Ann Moorehead of Corinth, MS after they met in Memphis while he was attending Southern College of Optometry. After practicing one year in Laurel, MS with Dr. James Moye he opened his own practice in Greenwood, MS. He spent 11 years in Greenwood then moved and opened his new practice in South Jackson where he retired in 2000. He enjoyed traveling with his family on many trips, especially to Europe. Dr. Lewis was a member of Pinelake Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Banks Lewis and Floy Barker Lewis, and his brothers, Jack and Hal Lewis.
Dr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Ann Moorehead Lewis; daughters, Laurie and Jolynn Lewis; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to Mississippi Spay and Neuter at 657 Highway 49 in Richland, MS.
