Duane Hakarine

February 2, 1939 — November 29, 2017

Duane Dennis Hakarine, 78, passed away Wed. Nov. 29, 2017 at Brandon Nursing and Rehab Center in Brandon, MS from complications of Parkinson’s Disease in which he was diagnosed with in 2011. Visitation will be held on Sat. Dec. 9, 2017 from 9:30am-10:45am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services will be 11am on Sat. Dec. 9, 2017 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS. Burial will be in the Malvern Cemetery in Malvern, IA.

Duane was born Feb. 11, 1939 in Virginia, MN, the son of the late Alice and Wayne Hakarine. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1957. He attended the Virginia Community College and then transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in Chemistry in 1965. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity.

He married Connie Rae Hakarine on Aug. 30, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Red Oak, IA. He started work at Gould National Battery in 1964 and stayed there 37 years and retired from Exide Batteries (used to be GNB) in 2001. He continued to work and did consulting work for 6 ½ more years and worked at the Raymond Airport for 10 years.

Duane went to school and received his A&P (airframe and power plant) rating and soon after got his IA (inspection authorization) rating so he could work on other planes. He was happiest when he was flying his plane a 180 Cherokee. Duane was a member of Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Hakarine of Brandon, MS; daughter, Kerrie Lynn Goeden (Mike) of Cross Plains, WI; son, Kevin James Hakarine of Blaine, MN; three grandchildren, Sydney, Emery and Ellis Goeden of Cross Plaines, WI. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews from MN, CO and CA.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the residents and staff of Brandon Nursing and Rehab Center and to Home Care Hospice for their amazing love, care and support.
