Dwight was born on March 8, 1936 to Dwight L. Ensign, Sr. and Nancy East Ensign in Amite, Louisiana. He graduated from Amite High School in 1954. He married Martha Ann Shute on July 24, 1959. Later that year, he graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a BA in Accounting. He worked for Louisiana State Hospitals and Ralston Purina Co. while residing in Hammond, LA. In 1972, Dwight accepted a manager position with M&H Manufacturing Co. and moved his family to Pelahatchie, MS. Then, in 1976, Dwight fulfilled a life-long dream of owning his own business when he partnered with A.J. Cooper to purchase a farm and hardware store in Pelahatchie. The Farm and Home Center became much more than a business to Dwight; it was a place where he passionately served his many faithful customers and friends. He retired in December, 2006 with plans to visit the sick, fish, and spend time with his family.
Dwight was a faithful member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. He worked in the summer youth baseball programs in both Hammond, LA and Pelahatchie where he touched many young lives.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Ensign, two sons, Dwayne and wife Betty of Pelahatchie, MS, and Michael and wife Robin of Laurel, MS, and five grandchildren; Amber, Kayla, Silas, Holly and Bethany. Dwight was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always thought about others above himself.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pelahatchie Baptist Church building fund in his memory.
