Earnest William McCarty, 49, a resident of Polkville died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services were held 11 am Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with burial in the Oak Grove Church of God Cemetery in Polkville. Visitation was held from 10 am until 9 pm Friday, June 6, 2014 and from 8:30 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Gatewood officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McCarty was a native of Smith Co. He was the son of Louie McCarty and Jewel Adcox McCarty. He was married to Teresa Pilgrim McCarty. Mr. McCarty enjoyed life to the fullest and loved hunting and fishing. He served his community for 31 years as a member of the Polkville Volunteer Fire Department and also serving as the present chief of the department. He worked some 20 years as a steel worker for Double G Coating. He loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by his parents, Louie McCarty and Jewel Dean Adcox McCarty, grandparents, Alphia Adcox and Willie Ruth Adcox, William McCarty and Beatrice Huff.
Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife, Teresa McCarty; 3 children, Donald McCarty, Kayla Wiltcher (Matthew) and Frankie Lingle; 1 sister, Romona Tweedy (Jeff Champion); 3 grandchildren, Ace Wiltcher, Jeremy Lloyd, Jr. and Dakota Wiltcher; 1 niece, Kaylee Tweedy; and a host of family and friends.
Serving and honoring Chief Earnest William McCarty was Nathaniel Stewart, Jason Bradshaw, Joseph Adcock, Billy Allen, Melvin Wilson, Jeff McNeece, Steven Allen, Dewayne Phillips, Gerald Easterling, Kelsey Phillips, Charlie Tibbitt, James Roberts, Terry Graham, Tommy Huff and Garland Huff. Also honored by the Smith County, Scott County, Rankin County Fire service personnel and many surrounding law enforcement agencies.
