Eddie Cook

Eddie Ray Cook died 1/11/2017 after a short illness at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Frances Rhodes Cook and daughters Jeanie Byrnes, Paula Pratte, Anita Campbell and Linda Marroush, siblings, Christine Beauchamp, Paulette Cook and Michael Cook, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers Willie Cook and Dennis Cook , as well as parents, Eddice Cook, Mae Hutchins Cook and 2nd mother, Geneva Harrington Cook. Eddie was born in Homer, Louisiana on July 14, 1931. He was a 1950 graduate of Central High School. He enlisted in the US Navy Reserve while still in high school and proudly served for 22 years of active duty, including time served during the Korean War, The Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Cook was most proud of his time served with the maiden crew of the USS Enterprise and was active as a Plank Owner of this country’s first nuclear carrier. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3rd class during his time served. Eddie and his family crisscrossed this land in service to his country, providing his children with many experiences only military families understand. After retiring from active duty, Eddie also worked for MP&L during the construction of Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant. In later years he worked for and retired from Fluor Daniel Engineering. In recent years, he and Fran have lived in Brandon and were active members of Crossgates United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at Lee and Ott in Brandon. The family would like to express deepest gratitude to the staff at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland MS for the compassionate care they provided for Eddie in his last days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
