Edith LaVerne Mathews, 86, passed away Fri. Oct. 22, 2010 at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. Visitation is Sunday, October 24, from 2pm.-5pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS and Mon. from 10am.-11am. at Fannin United Methodist Church in Fannin, MS. Funeral Services are 11am. Mon. Oct. 25, 2010 at Fannin United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Fannin Methodist Cemetery.
Mrs. Mathews was born in Yazoo County and has lived in the Reservoir area for the past 22 years, where she was a member of Fannin United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mathews also enjoyed cooking for her family and especially for her family reunions.
She is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Long and husband Tommy of Brandon; two sons, Jimmy Gray and wife Jeanne of Brandon and Gene Gray and wife Connie of Jackson; her daughter-in-law, Susan Gray of Baton Rouge, LA; her sister, Francis Beasley and husband Richard of Fayetteville, NC; her brother, Glynn Griffing and wife Nikki of Jackson; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mathews is preceded in death by her husbands, James Artie Gray and Joseph Parker Mathews; and her youngest son, John Gray.
