Edith Whitley Minnis: A Life of Service and Love
Edith Whitley Minnis, a beloved teacher, social worker, and missionary, passed away on October 5, 2023, in her hometown of Brandon, MS. She was born on July 19, 1934, and was the youngest of 12 siblings. Edith lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Throughout her career as a teacher and social worker, Edith touched the hearts of countless individuals. Edith's dedication to her profession extended beyond the classroom as she also served as a social worker, providing support and guidance to those in need. Her unwavering empathy and willingness to lend a helping hand made a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
Edith's passion for serving others led her to become a devoted missionary. As a missionary, she ventured far from her home in Mississippi to many places spreading love, hope, and faith wherever she went. Edith's dedication to her mission and unwavering belief in the power of compassion left an indelible mark on the communities she served.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Edith was also an exceptional homemaker and pastor's wife. She supported and stood by her late husband James Minnis throughout his pastoral journey with unwavering love and devotion. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret King.
A visitation will be held October 9th from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Brandon. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Brandon at 3:30 PM.
Edith leaves behind an enduring legacy cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by son David Minnis and his wife Kathey, beloved son-in-law Carl King, grandchildren Laurie (Justin) Burns, Lindsey (James) Dean, Nathan King, Josh Minnis, and four great-grandchildren. Her memory will also be treasured by Betty (John) Mohr, Polly (Sammy) Reid, Mala Torrence, and numerous other nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
We remember Edith Whitley Minnis as someone who embraced life with kindness and grace. She was a beacon of light in the lives she touched and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her legacy live on in our hearts as we carry forward her spirit of compassion and service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Edith's lifelong dedication to making the world a better place.
