Edith Voncile Comfort Wilson
Brandon, MS
Edith Voncile Comfort Wilson, 91, died peacefully at Brandon Nursing and Rehab on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. January 2, 2021, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. at Ott & Lee. Masks will be required. Burial will be at Brandon Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Clarence Cooper and Rev. Gayden Harrell will officiate.
Voncile spent much of her childhood in the Andrew Chapel community. Later the family moved to Brandon, where Voncile graduated from Brandon High School.
Voncile always worked to help provide for her family. Though she worked various places through the years, she retired from MP&L (now Entergy) after 20 years.
In addition to caring for her children, Voncile’s great passion was working in her yard. She eventually married someone who shared that passion. Voncile and Willie spent many hours beautifying and expanding their landscape and even adding a pond, which provided a peaceful respite after a long day of gardening. Voncile showed her special love for Willie by always having tiny vases of fresh flowers from the yard around the house for Willie’s pleasure.
She and Willie did take a few breaks through the years to do some traveling and sightseeing. Once Willie surprised Voncile with a ticket to the Holy Land with a group from the church. She also went to Egypt, where she got to ride a camel.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and assistants at Brandon Nursing and Rehab for providing the special care for their mother. The workers often expressed how pleasant Voncile was and how they liked her sweet smile.
She was preceded in death by husband D.E. “Willie” Wilson, and daughter Terri Stanley Zebert, her parents Bennie and Renna Smith Comfort, brothers Mervin Anse Comfort and Hayes Royal Comfort, sisters Bennye Comfort Jackson and Gayl Comfort Brock.
Voncile is survived by children Deena Stanley Moore, Rex McKay (Kim), Alane McKay Dotson, Craig Wilson (Elizabeth) all of Brandon; grandchildren Renna Moore and Havilah Moore Bradshaw (Dylan) of Jackson, Justin Zebert of Pearl, Kara Zebert Hankins (Taylor) of Flowood, Chris Ford of Houston, TX, Daniel Dotson and Dylan Dotson of Brandon, Reese Wilson of Brandon; and great-grandsons Wes Hankins and Anson Ford.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Brandon Baptist Church, where Voncile was a charter member.
