Mrs. Edna Bates, age 88 passed away on October 26, 2015 at the MS Care Center in Morton, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 31, 2015 from the Leesburg Baptist Church with Bro. Andy Boles, Bro. Joseph Oster, Bro. Kenny Lang officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, October 30, 2015 and again on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with the Interment following the service at the Groveton Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Morton, MS.
Mrs. Edna Bates was born on July 12, 1933 to the parents of Arch and Pernie "Pearson" Gould in Forkville, MS of Scott County. She was a lifelong resident of this area and also a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church, of Morton. She loved gardening, flowers, fishing, sewing, and crocheting. She loved her children, grandchildren, her family and church family very dearly.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Mitchell Cleveland Bates; her parents, Arch and Pernie "Pearson" Gould; her grandson, Mitchel Clay Thompson; son-in-law, Mack Thompson.
Mrs. Bates is survived by her daughters, Linda Thompson (Charles) of Morton, and Patsy Thompson of Forest; her grandchildren, Glen Thompson (Carrie), Herman Thompson (Heather), Mackey Thompson (Brenda), Michael Thompson (Lori), Elizabeth Sigrest (Lance), Mathieu Thompson (Rachel); her great-grandchildren, Skyla Thompson, Sage Thompson, Sami Thompson, Mallori Thompson, Conner Sigrest, Owen Sigrest, Kaelin Sigrest, Matthew Massey, Wyatt Mitchell Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews; a host of friends and family of faith. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of MS Care Center and her special friends Dr. Clark and Ruby Lucroy.
Pallbearers are Glen Thompson, Mackey Thompson, Herman Thompson, Michael Thompson, Mathieu Thompson, and Lance Sigrest. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Matthew Massey, Owen Sigrest, Conner Sigrest, and Wyatt Thompson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home of Morton.
