Edward Aubrey Bailey, 72, of Brandon, MS went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Visitation is Monday, December 23, 2013 starting at 9am until the 10am Service in the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with burial in Rock Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery in Smith County.
Mr. Bailey was born in Lorena in Smith County. He was the fourth of five sons born to Preston and Ruby Bailey. As a teenager he became a Christian and joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He graduated from Burns High School and received his B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1965. He was employed as a professional engineer with the MS Department of Transportation in Jackson for 36 years working in Bridge Design, Equipment Division and as State Traffic Engineer. After retirement with MDOT he was employed with Pickering Consulting Engineers and ended his career with Wilbur Smith Associates.
For 40 years, he was an active member of First Baptist Church of Brandon. He served as a deacon and held many other lay ministry positions. Mission projects provided him much joy. Ed traveled with the MS Baptist Disaster Team to Mexico City after the earthquake in 1985, helping cook, feed the people and witness. His servant spirit was evidence of his love and dedication to the Lord, his family and others.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and two of his older brothers. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Purvis Bailey; daughters, Anita (Craig) Slay of Brandon, and Kristi (David) Francis of Madison; granddaughters, Caroline and Anna Beth Slay and Lane and Mary Margaret Francis; brothers, Autrey (Elizabeth) Bailey, David (Jo Ann) Bailey; sister-in-law, Olivia Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
