EDWARD EUGENE SIMMS
MORTON
Mr. Eugene “Big U” Simms, age 64, a resident of Morton went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation was held 5-9pm Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and also on Thursday, October 14th from 9am-10:15 am at the funeral home. Funeral Services were held at 11am on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Leesburg Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Smith, Rev. Joseph Oster and Rev. Ted Giordano officiated the services. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Simms is a native of Warren County and had lived in Scott County since 1972. He was a member of the North American Mission Board and an Ordained Minister. Eugene was a D.J. for the radio stations WRJH and WRKN for many years. He was a member of the gospel music group The Branches and God’s Child. He served as a coordinator for the Gospel Pavilion at the MS State Fair. He would wish for everyone to continue the work that he has started and would want no one to cry for him because he has met his reward. Mr. Simms loved people and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Preceded in death by his father, Joe Simms and brother, Timothy Simms.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Ruth Simms of Leesburg; daughter, Tara Yates (Eddie) of Leesburg; mother, Christine Simms of Vicksburg; sister Eunice Elaine Worthy (Glen) of Vicksburg; granddaughter, Kara Yates of Leesburg, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Bruce Mills, Bill Duncan, Wayne Wallace, Jerry Jones, Glen Hannah, Tony King, Wilbur McCurdy and Benard King. Honorary pallbearers were Trevor Jordan, Tony Worthy, Glen Worthy, Kevin Smith, Mitch Worthy, Louis Smith and Earl Jordan.
