Edward Nester

Funeral services for Mr. Edward Nester will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from the Pine Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Laird, Bro. Victor Bugg, Dr. Jack Evans, and Bro. William Savell officiating.


Music for the service will be provided by Bro. Tommy Anderson, soloist and Mrs. Wanda Laird, pianist.


Interment will be in the Pine Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.


Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.


Edward Nester was born on Sunday, June 3, 1928 at Conehatta in Newton County and passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at MS Care Center in Morton at the age of 87.


He was a lifelong resident of Newton County, graduate of Lake High School, and a retired employee of the Newton Company. As echoed by his family, he loved his church family at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member and served as deacon. Mr. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a sports enthusiast, particularly in the areas of football, baseball, and basketball; he was a faithful supporter of his grandchildren. Hunting, fishing, cattle farming, and gardening were hobbies he enjoyed as long as his health permitted. Ed Nester will be remembered as a family man, a humble servant, and one who always was willing to lend a helping hand; a good neighbor and friend to many. He will be missed, his legacy will live on.


He is preceded in death by his parents: Otis Nester and Floy McGee Rube; two brothers: Bud Nester and Thomas Gene Osborn; and one sister: Bobbie Nell Phillips.


Survivors include his wife of over 66 years: Mamie Nester of Lake; three children: Patsy (Ed) Amis of Lake; Betty (Jack) Evans of Laurel and Eddie (Jan) Nester of Lake; seven grandchildren: Bethany Crosby, Stacy Parker, Eric Evans, Laurie Douglas, Emily Burrell, Jana McGee, and Jake Nester; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Daniel (Carolyn) Nester of Lake; and several nieces and nephews;


Pallbearers will be Ken Crosby, Chad Parker, Eric Evans, Chris Douglas, Matthew Burrell, Jake Nester, and Steven McGee.


Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Pine Ridge Baptist Church.


Memorial donations may be made to Pine Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Delbert Walton, 951 Gibbstown Rd., Lawrence, MS 39336 or to the Gideons International, Inc., P.O. Box 804, Forest, MS 39074.


The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. John Hassell for his many years of dedication, the Staff of MS Care Center at Morton for their professional service and kindness, and Homecare Hospice for their care, concern, and compassion for their loved one.
