Edwin Allen

November 13, 1931 — August 2, 2020

Brandon, MS

Edwin Chandler Allen, 88, of Brandon passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020. Born November 13, 1931, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His life’s mission was to love, provide and care for his family. After a long career at Ferro Corporation he spent his retirement years at Pelahatchie Bay Trading Post, where his quiet spirit and infectious smile brought great joy to the Fannin community.

A veteran of the United States Army, he proudly served his country in the Korean War.

Edwin was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fannin where he served for many years as a deacon. Above all things, he was a man of faith, always willing to share a cup of coffee and a story with whomever crossed his path.

He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Herrington (Roy), Carol Thigpen and Elisa Sparkman; five grandchildren, Jud Thigpen IV, Nora Brasel, Rachel Bilbro, Abby and Rebecca Sparkman; four great-grandchildren, Emerson Thigpen, Brantley Thigpen, Jack Brasel and Cole Bilbro; sister Anna Ruth Peets and brother Alvin Allen.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Magee Allen, his parents Albert and Gladys Allen and his brother Bernice Allen.

There will be a graveside service at First Baptist Church of Fannin on Monday, August 17, at 11 am. We respectfully ask that those in attendance practice social distancing and wear masks or face coverings according to CDC guidelines.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fannin's building fund.
