Edwin Earl Sallis, Sr.

Edwin Earl Sallis, age 89, a loving father, dedicated husband of 66 years, and an avid fisherman who cherished the outdoors and nature, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Born on March 15, 1936, in Water Valley, Mississippi, to Nell Ashford Sallis and Martin Edwin Sallis, Ed lived a life rich in family, faith, and a deep appreciation for the world around him.

A proud graduate of Ackerman High School (1954) and Mississippi State University (B.S., 1958), Ed’s early accomplishments included earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He made Brandon his home in 1979, where he built a life filled with meaningful connections and also embraced opportunities for world travel with his wife, the love of his life.

Ed’s passion for Mississippi State and fishing brought him great joy. He treasured the moments spent in the woods and on lake. His love for the outdoors was a constant throughout his life, reflecting his thoughtful appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Edwin Sallis and Nell Ashford Sallis. Ed’s memory will live on through his devoted wife, Mitzi Ann Shelton Sallis; his son, Edwin Sallis; his daughter, Lisa McClintock (Charles); and his sister, Mary Nell Baltar. He was a cherished grandfather to Olivia Sallis, Ann Elise Sallis, Ross McClintock, and Patrick McClintock, who brought him endless joy.

A man of quiet strength and deep faith, Ed will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Brandon First Methodist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m.
