Elizabeth Irby, age 95, entered this life on March 7, 1916 and walked into Heaven on March 1, 2012. Visitation was held 5-9pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home Friday, March 2, 2012. Funeral services were held 11am Saturday, March 3, 2012 at New Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Smith officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. Irby lived in the Branch community all her life and was a charter member of New Liberty Baptist Church. She had been a resident at Mississippi Care Center for about two years. Elizabeth loved to work in her flower beds and grow vegetables in her garden, especially tomatoes. No one could ask for a better mother or grandmother. She will be greatly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Irby; daughter, Nannie Bea Easterling; parents, Otho Robert Sumrall and Nannie Jackson Sumrall; brothers Bill, Carl and Otho Sumrall; sisters Phronia Richardson, Allie Harrell and Mae Waggoner.
She is survived by two children, John Robert Irby (Billie) and Hilda Saxton both of the Branch community; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Doster (Bobby), Jim Easterling, Nannette McLendon (Phillip), Tammy Burchfield (Jeff), Loretta McCoy (Todd), Woody Easterling (Amy), Shannon Irby (Phyllis), Rhonda Baily (Brent), Donovan Irby (MJ), Sandy Rhinewalt (Todd) and Christi Stewart (Bubba); 27 great grandchildren; 33 great great grandchildren and an abundance of nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Sugar.”
Serving as pallbearers were Todd Rhinewalt, Shannon Irby, Bubba Stewart, Donovan Irby, Beau Rhinewalt and Erek Rhinewalt. Honorary pallbearers were George Boyd, Wilbur McCurdy, Jimmy McDill, Cole Irby and Ty Stewart.
