Elzie Nelson

Elzie Thomas Nelson, age 93, a resident of Raleigh died Thursday December 1, 2011 at the Covington County Hospital in Collins following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30am Saturday December 3, 2011 from the Leaf River Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Dr. Danny Dickerson and Rev. James Maddox will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 9am til 10:30am Saturday at Leaf River Baptist Church.
Mr. Nelson was a lifelong resident of the Pineville area, born in Smith County on August 13, 1918 to Daniel L. Nelson and Sally Harris Nelson. After graduating high school, he served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He was a member of Leaf River Baptist Church. Mr. Nelson owned and operated Nelson Grocery in Pineville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Lee Etta “Jet” Nelson.
He is survived by three children, Sharrell D. Nelson (Martha Fay) of Jackson, . Gary L. Nelson (Linda) of Homewood, and Patsy Garner (Larry) of Raleigh. Mr. Nelson is also survived by three brothers, Sam Nelson of Pineville, Mitchell Nelson of Bay Springs and Crawford Nelson of Huntsville, Al. He also leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren and seven great grand-children.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Nelson, Cory Nelson, Harold Nelson, Tom Nelson, Michael Nelson, and Eric Garner.
