Emily C. Thompson passed away into Heaven and gained her wings on Friday, December 27, 2024. She was born to Maude and H.C. Cliburn on July 6, 1940, in Simpson County, Mississippi. On July 25, 1964, she married the love of her life, Charlie Thompson.
Her previous employment was in 1959 after attending Jackson Commercial College. She worked at Jackson Metropolitan Library until 1974. She worked as a secretary for West Park united Methodist Church from 1979 until 1984, and part time as secretary at Pearl United Methodist Church from 1984 until 2015. She loved serving others and had a passion for missions.
She had a void in her life when she lost her husband on August 17, 2018. She continued serving God’s Church, attending meetings and serving God wherever the opportunity came available. She was best known by GenGen by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved her very much. She loved spending time with family and traveling.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Varner (Ed); son, Charlie Thompson, Jr.; grandchildren, Brittany Childress (Cory) and Breanna Cauthen (Cole); great grandchildren, Layla Childress, Lillian Childress, Chloe Cauthen, Amelia Cauthen, and Brady Cole Cauthen.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Thompson; parents, Maude and H.C. Cliburn; brother, Edward Cliburn; sisters, Vaiden Barlow, Gertie McNaughton, Myrtle Lee Means, and Brenda Russell; and grandson, Clifton Varner.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm in the chapel. Mrs. Thompson will be laid to rest in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
