Ernest E. Smith, age 68, a resident of Raleigh, died Monday September 5, 2016 at the Forrest General Hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 2pm Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the chapel of the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest with interment in the Leaf River Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Danny Dickerson officiated.
Mr. Smith was born in Simpson County on January 31, 1948 to his parents Ernest L. Smith and Verna Mae Lofton Smith. He attended Leaf River Baptist Church. Mr. Smith worked in the petroleum industry where he retired from Joe Tally, Inc. in 2011.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest L. Smith and his wife Linda Smith.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Verna L. Smith, five children: Yolanda D. Sanderford of Magee, Dennis Smith (Denise) of Raleigh, Jamie Freeman (Becky) of Mendenhall, April Massey (James) of Brandon, Bobbie Sue White of Louisana, 2 brothers; Harlon Smith of Tupelo, MS Jimmy Turnage of Denmark, 2 sisters: Linda Smith Bounds of Raleigh, MS and Norma Gilbert of Mobile, AL. He also leaves a legacy of 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kevin Freeman, James Sanderford, Dalton Freeman, Andrew Sanderford, Justin Sanderford and Dwayne Tate. Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Gilbert and George Young.
