Essie Higdon

February 27, 1923 — December 30, 2012

Essie Weeks Higdon, left this earthly life and went home to be with her Heavenly Father on December 30, 2012. She was a resident of The Arbor in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation is 10am until 11am Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with an 11:30am graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS on Clinton Blvd.

Mrs. Higdon was born February 27, 1923, in Lincoln County, MS to Lloyd Weeks and Berniece Magee. On February 14, 1942, she married the love of her life, W.L. (Willie) Higdon. They were happily married for 59 years.

She was a faithful member of Asbury Congregational Methodist Church for many, many years. She taught Adult Sunday School classes for most of those years. She continued teaching Sunday School during her residence at Sunnybrook Retirement Home in Madison, MS. She was a member of the Reflections Choir of First Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, until her health began to fail. She loved to sing and tell people of her love for her Lord.

She retired from the City of Jackson Water & Sewer Administration after 32 years of service to enjoy working in her flowers and vegetable garden. She enjoyed membership in many clubs, including the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and all six of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by Bob Higdon of Madison, MS, her brother-in-law and caregiver; Charlyne Warren of Claremont, CA, sister-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
