Mr. Eugene Blackburn, age 86, a resident of Morton passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Mississippi Care Center in Morton. Visitation was held 5pm-7pm Friday, November 17, 2017 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 9:30am-10:30am Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services were held 11am Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Morton Memorial Gardens. Bro. Earl Clark officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Blackburn was born in Newton County on March 19, 1931. He was a long time member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Morton where he also kept the Sunday School Class records. Eugene owned a small engine repair shop for many years and loved restoring old vehicles. He and his wife, Helen enjoyed traving in their younger days. His kind heart will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt Talmadge Blackburn and Imogene Pace Blackburn; daughter-in-law, Diane Powell; brother-in-law, Sammy Robinson; nephew, John Talmadge Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Helen Allen Blackburn of Morton; children, Elouise Evans (Sonny) of Line Prairie, Michael “Buddy” Powell (Joan) of Hattiesburg and Jeanie Walker (D.W.) of Russellville, Arkansas; 2 sisters, Gillye Robinson of Forkville and Nila McCollough (Kenneth) of Brandon; 7 grandchildren, Mike Evans, Dee Evans (Angela), Nicol Woodbury (Neil), Michael McArthur (Lauran), Shelley Ezelle, Steven Walker and Jason Walker; 7 great grandchildren, Andy Evans, Katie Parker (Tristen), Daiten Woodbury, Colson Woodbury, Stella McArthur, Chamblee Ezelle and Hills Ezelle; niece, Amanda White (Michael); nephews, Kenny McCollough (Suzy) and Brad McCollough (Apphia); and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Andy Evans, Steven Walker, Jason Walker, Michael McArthur, Neil Woodbury and Tristen Parker. Honorary pallbearers were the Clayton Young Mens Adult Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Morton.
