Evan Michael Jones

Evan Michael Jones was born on November 3, 1965. He joined his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Known for his effervescent personality, quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit, he will be missed dearly and forever in our hearts. Visitation will be 12:30pm Wednesday, May 15, 2019, until the 3pm Celebration Service at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS.  Graveside services will follow at Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.

Evan graduated in 1984 from Vestavia Hills High School in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in History and English Literature from South Alabama University in 1989. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He made meaningful and lasting friendships during that time that he cherished deeply.

After college, he began a successful career in the information technology field starting his own business, Integrated Technology Group. He later became an instructor of Microsoft Engineering at Virginia College where he shared his vast knowledge to grow new talent in the field. Since 2008, he served as Information Security Officer at the Veterans Administration where he held CISA, CISSP, CRISC, CAP, CTT, and MCP certifications. This was not only a job for him but a privilege to serve veterans he loved and respected.

Evan was a loving and devoted husband to Cindy Magee Jones for 16 years.  Their love for one another was immeasurable with Christ in the center of their marriage.  In 2007, they were blessed with an amazing son, John Michael Jones. Evan had many accomplishments in life but his proudest was being a father to Michael. He was actively involved in all that Michael did. Evan and Michael shared a love for the outdoors and became active in the Boy Scouts of America. With a shared belief in the scouting values of service, community engagement and leadership development, Evan served as a Cub Scout Den leader for 3 years, a Trained Cub Scout Range Master at Warren Hood Scout Reservation, a Trained NRA Shotgun and Rifle Scout Instructor and a Scout Charter Organization Representative. During his tenure with the Boy Scouts of America, he mentored countless youth teaching them, by example, to live honorable  lives.

Evan enjoyed many hobbies. As a car enthusiast, he was a member of the BMW Car Club.  He was a gifted soloist and enjoyed performing with the Jackson Choral Society. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved spending time with his family and friends, often cooking their favorite meals. He also enjoyed sailing and photography.

Evan was a devoted Christian. He loved the Lord and his church family. As an active member of Crossgates United Methodist Church, he served as a member of the church council and enjoyed singing in the choir. His lifelong wish to sing at Carnegie Hall was fulfilled when he and his church choir had the honor of experiencing this together. He volunteered as a song leader at the Methodist Cursillo of Mississippi and was also active in Kairos Prison ministry. His life was one of service to others. He selflessly gave of himself to those he loved and his community. He loved people and was a proud American. Most of his friends and loved ones know that Evan also enjoyed a good political debate! He became very passionate about politics in college and went on to manage a few campaigns.

Left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of love and service is his wife, Cindy; Son, Michael; Mother, Patricia Byrd Driesbach (Ron); Mother-In-Law, Linda Magee (Nana); Sister, Virginia Jones; Sister, Charlotte Owens (Jim); Sister-In-Law, Denise Magee (Tim) and a host of friends, coworkers and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Johnny Mac Jones; and his Father-In-Law, John Henry Magee.

The family would like to thank all the friends and family for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following:
