Floyd Oliver “Junior” Underwood
Dec. 9, 1929-Sept. 1, 2021
On Sept. 1, 2021, Heaven gained a “one of a kind” angel. Floyd Oliver Underwood, known as “Junior”, passed peacefully into his heavenly home after a 4-year long battle with Alzheimer’s.
“Junior” was born in Missouri, but has been a long-time resident of Pelahatchie, living his last 4 years with his daughter Sandra. He was a member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home from the war, he worked for Western Electric (A, T & T) and retired after over 50 years of company service.
“Junior” was a wonderful man, husband, daddy, granddaddy and mentor. He will always be remembered for his sweet smile and dry wit. Although he was a small man, his heart was huge and he was always willing to help his family in one way or another. He loved to travel and was always ready for a road trip. “Junior” enjoyed fishing, camping, casinos and working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Wells Underwood, daughter, Paula E. Lewis, his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
He is survived by daughters Vicki A. Steadham (Johnny), Sandra D. Huff (Perry), and son Christopher Scott Underwood, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and 1 great, great, great grandchild.
There will be a small graveside service for family & friends at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS at 9:30am on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. The family would like to convey their appreciation to his sitter and friend, Katina White, the Home Health Care Agency and Hospice Services for their constant care to “Junior” while he was ill.
In Lieu of Flowers:
The family requests no flowers but individuals may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in “Juniors” memory, if they feel so led.
