Frances Elizabeth Smith Howard Burnham, 61, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS. Visitation is 5-8 pm Monday, January 7, 2013 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Graveside Services are 1 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood, MS.
Mrs. Burnham was a (retired) computer technician at Morrow Realty, Inc. for 15 years. She had been a member and officer of Colonel Richard Bland Society of the CAR, Greenwood, MS; an officer of the Mississippi State Society of the CAR; a member of Chakchiuma Chapter DAR, Greenwood, MS; and the Junior Auxiliary in Itta Bena, MS. She attended West Tallahatchie High School, Mississippi Delta Junior College and Delta State University. While majoring in journalism, she won 1st place in the State for feature writing and the newspaper award. She was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church and a former member of Glendora Methodist Church. She dearly loved flowers and gardening and as a member of Plantation Garden won many blue ribbons. She was presented at the Southern Debutante Assembly in Greenwood, MS. Before her automobile accident in 1999, she was a very active member in the community, especially assisting people in and out of the hospital, and those disadvantaged for whatever reason.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edgar Erle Smith, Jr. of Edgemar Plantation, Glendora, MS and Frances V. Miller Smith of Glendora and Brandon, MS.
Survivors include her daughter, Emily Frances Howard; her sons, William DeLafayette Howard III and wife, Jennifer and James Sidney Howard II; four granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Howard, Hannah Elizabeth Howard, Madelyn Reed Howard and Catherine Camille Howard; three grandsons, Nolan Blake Howard, Landon Cole Howard, and Zane Allen Howard; a sister, Ladye Margaret Smith Townsend, all of Brandon, MS; two brothers, Edgar Erle Smith, III of Cleveland, MS and Jasper Franklin Smith of Dallas, TX; an uncle, Robert Day of Atlanta, GA; five nieces, two nephews, one great-niece, three great-nephews and five first cousins.
