Frances Brown was born at Meridian, on April 6, 1932, to her parents, William Pinkney and Zula Mae Kidd Brown.
She was a 1949 graduate of Enterprise High School and graduated from Rush Memorial Hospital Nursing School, class of 1952. Her nursing career began, June 1952, at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro, and shortly after then, she met Charles Naurice Crenshaw, whom she married July 15, 1952. During her nursing years, she worked at Greenwood Leflore Hospital (Greenwood, MS), University of MS Student Health Center (Oxford, MS), Baptist Hospital (Jackson, MS), Newton Hospital from 1957-1961, and for Dr. Charles Naurice Crenshaw, Jr., for the remainder of her nursing years. They retired in 2000.
Mrs. Crenshaw was an active member of Newton United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted her participation. She was former Sunday School Teacher, Faith Circle member, longtime member of the outreach committee where she organized blood drives for the church and community. She also served the church as a member of Ultreya, the kitchen crew for the annual Drive Thru Nativity, and volunteered with the Wesley Group at East Central Community College, fed by the Newton UMC on a routine basis, and she also served as a church greeter, always involved with service to others through the church.
She passed away on August 19, 2020 at Woodland Court Personal Care in Newton.
Preceding her in death are her husband: Dr. Charles N. Crenshaw, Jr.; one son: Louis Pickett Crenshaw; her parents; and one brother: William Edward Brown.
Survivors include her children: Charles N. Crenshaw, III, and his wife Jayne; Joellyn Crenshaw Brelsford and her husband Mark; Howard Thomas Crenshaw and his wife Kay; Janette Crenshaw Frady and her husband Chad; and Kim Brown Crenshaw and wife Jeannie; grandchildren: Cari Crenshaw (Eric) Zetterholm, Charles N. (Lauren) Crenshaw, IV, Leslie Joellyn Crenshaw and Ashley Frady; one step-grandchild: John Bruce Hedrick; great-grandchildren: Gracelynn Watson, Charles Naurice “Fin” Crenshaw, V, Ezra Vance “Van” Clarkson, Tyner Elizabeth Crenshaw, Magnolia Raiyne Higginbottom, and Mila Rose Crenshaw.
In lieu of flowers, at her request, memorial donations may be made to the Frances B. Crenshaw Scholarship Fund, c/o East Central Community College, P.O. Box 129, Decatur, MS 39327, the Newton United Methodist Church, 600 Decatur St. Newton, MS 39345, or to a charity of choice, in the words of Frances Crenshaw “for starving children.”
