Frances Kirby McKay, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister died on Saturday, November 6, 2010 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be 5-7 pm today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the funeral home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Frances was born June 6, 1928, in Union, Mississippi. She graduated from Union High School and was a cheerleader for the Yellow Jackets. In 1946 she married Tom Kirby of Newton, fresh from the Navy in World War II. Tom died in 1969. In 1979 Frances married George McKay of Pelahatchie and they were happily married for 30 years. Frances was a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon.
Frances was employed by the Mississippi Department of Tourism where she was director of Mississippi’s Miss Hospitality Pageant, official Chaperone of Miss Hospitality, and later coordinator of Mississippi’s Welcome Centers. She retired after 25 years of service.
In addition, Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Winnie Service and brother, A.L. Service
Survivors include her husband, George William McKay, Sr; son, Harry Kirby (Ann) of Clinton; granddaughters, Karla Murray (Brett) of Madison and Katie Kirby of Clinton; great grandsons, Kaleb Kirby and J.B. Murray; step-son, Sonny McKay (Jill) of Charleston, South Carolina; step grandchildren, Laurel and Cole McKay; sister, Jean Sullivan of Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.
