Frank Glynn Skipper, 76, died peacefully at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland on Sunday, November 27, 2011, with his family surrounding him with love. Visitation will be 5pm until 8 pm Monday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. The funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
Frank, affectionately known as “Big Daddy” by his grandchildren, graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1952 and joined the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He played full back for Mississippi State University football team from 1955 -1960. Frank coached in Leakesville, MS and then at Picayune High School in 1963 where he was head coach and later coached at East Rankin Academy. He was a business owner and operator in Pelahatchie at Ransco Propane.
His father, Robert Lee Skipper and mother, Avie Clayton Skipper preceded him in death, as well as his son-in-law, Joey Giordano.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jennings Skipper of 59 years; 3 daughters, Cheryl Skipper Giordano of Flowood, Donna Skipper Malone (Phil) of Byhalia, MS and Melanie Skipper Savage (Jay) of Brandon; brother, Bobby Skipper of South Carolina; 6 grandchildren, Whitney Giordano, Mandy Black, Molly Malone, Skipper Giordano, Adam Savage and Rachel Savage and one great granddaughter, Mary Malone Black.
Pallbearers will be Skipper Giordano, Adam Savage, Jay Savage, Phil Malone, Jason Black, Collest Johnson, Casey Gates. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Kennedy, Dick Weatherholt, Billy Rhodes and Bobby Warren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc. or St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
